Capable of Powering Nearly 25,000 Los Angeles Area Homes
SYLMAR, Calif., May 12, 2015 - Republic Services, Inc. (NYSE:RSG) announced a new landfill gas-to-energy (LFGTE) project located at Sunshine Canyon Landfill near Los Angeles. The 20-megawatt renewable energy project is capable of generating enough electricity to power nearly 25,000 area homes.
When the riders of Team Sky made their American cycling debut at the Amgen Tour of California last year, they seized the opportunity to engage and inspire cycling fans in the U.S., just as they had done so successfully in the U.K. This year, the team returns to California as the reigning champions, and they are expanding on their initial mission to engage American cycling fans in a number of new ways.
As part of DIRECTV’s support of K-12 education, during the 2013-2014 school year we piloted a new program to provide career education to students at Bright Star Secondary Charter Academy, a high-need charter high school in the Los Angeles area. Participating students were exposed to a wide variety of careers — some which require a four-year education and some that require technical education or that could be pursued as a viable career out of high school. Students visited a DIRECTV office for six hours a week over a nine-month period and received class credit for participation.
In November 2013, DIRECTV and Scripps Networks Interactive partnered to beautify the teacher's lounge at a special needs school in Los Angeles. HGTV designer Todd Davis led employee volunteers in an environmentally responsible project to make the lounge a more beautiful and functional space for the school's teachers.
