WEST HILLS, Calif., October  28, 2014 /3BL Media/- Every month, students from El Camino Real Charter High School (ECRCHS) Action Team, part of the national youth volunteer program administered by the Major League Baseball Players Trust and Volunteers of America give up some of their valuable personal time to help clean up Woolsey Canyon. On the second Sunday each month, from 9:00AM to noon, dozens of ECRCHS students gather to keep Woolsey Canyon environmentally pristine.

On Saturday, October 25, more than 20 Action Team Captains from Bishop Ireton, HB Woodlawn, and St. Stephens St. Agnes high schools joined forces with Alexandria Involved Ecumenically (ALIVE) to pack and distribute groceries for 200senior citizens and disabled residents of Ladrey High-Rise.

Action Team: Throwback Thursday Edition

Each year an increasing number of high school students across the U.S. are joining the Action Team national youth volunteer program.  When they join the Action Team, they’re joining a team that’s 50,000 strong, and one that includes Major League baseball players and students from Maine to Maui and points in between.  
 
For over 10 years the Action Team Captains have been making a positive impact in their communities through a variety of activities, including neighborhood cleanups, volunteering at senior centers, and hosting other charitable efforts.

Action Teams Honored for Their Community Service Involvement

Action Teams on opposite sides of the country were honored this week for serving their communities.

The Manatee School for the Performing Arts Action Team, an active participant in the program since 2012, was recognized at the Palmetto (Fla.) town hall meeting on Monday night for adopting four local parks. Each Saturday morning during the school year, the Manatee Action Team Captains come together for three hours to help clean the local parks.

Motte’s First Pitch to Cancer was a Strike

On September 2, Major League baseball players united together to "strikeout cancer" and raise awareness and funds for cancer-related charities across the United States.

Jason Motte’s lofty goal is to strikeout cancer. On Sept. 2, he had the whole baseball world watching him pitch.
 
It was late 2010 when the Cardinals’ reliever and his wife Caitlin were first summoned from the bullpen in the fight against cancer. At the time, Caitlin’s grandfather was a cancer patient at The West Clinic in Memphis, Tenn., and they wanted to do all they could to help. The “StrikeOut Cancer with Jason Motte Foundation” was founded shortly thereafter.
