My name is Ryan Blay, an Action Team Captain who just graduated from Jefferson Academy High School in Broomfield, Colorado. Last year, I was introduced to the Action Team — a partnership of Volunteers of America and the Major League Baseball Players Trust. As my school’s Key Club president, I wanted to have my club start an Action Team so we could have more ways of helping the community.

George Springer’s Bowling Event Benefits Camp for Kids who Stutter

George Springer is among the approximately 70 million people who stutter, but he doesn’t allow the condition to keep him from living a high-profile life and speaking publicly.

The Astros’ right fielder hosted a bowling event on Monday night at Lucky Strikes in Houston in to launch the George Springer Kids Fund and raise money and awareness for the Stuttering Association for the Young, or SAY.

Blanketed by a late-night snowstorm, Queens Vocational Technical High School in Long Island City, N.Y., seemed still from the outside on a cold, slushy Saturday in late January.

But it was anything but calm on the inside, where 25 Action Team volunteers were hosting a baseball clinic featuring Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton and Yankees pitcher Chris Capuano that would also serve as the backdrop for the taping of the Action Team’s newest Public Service Announcement campaign.

The Major League Baseball Players Association led a group of active and former Major Leaguers to West Baltimore on Saturday, June 13, 2015, to celebrate and honor James Mosher Baseball, a predominantly African-American youth baseball league that has served the troubled neighborhood for more than 50 years.  Joining MLBPA Executive Director and former Major League All-Star, Tony Clark, were Hall of Famer, Frank Robinson, current Orioles Adam Jones and Delmon Young, and former big leaguers Eric Davis, Jeffrey Hammonds and Wayne Kirby.

Players Join Action Team Captains to Provide Facelift for Low-Income Playground

Nationals players Aaron Barrett, Craig Stammen and Michael Taylor joined Action Team high school volunteers this week to give a fresh coat of paint to a playground that serves an apartment complex for low-income families.

More than 80 kids live at the Eastern Avenue Apartments, an 88-unit complex for low-income families that is operated by Volunteers of America’s Chesapeake affiliate. While the paint was drying, the players and Action Team Captains joined the kids in games of wiffle ball, basketball and jump rope. 

Robinson Cano Brings A-List Celebs, Latin Flair to Charity Night

Robinson Cano is bringing Latin flair and A-list celebrities to his fundraiser in Seattle on the evening of Wednesday June 3.

The all-star second baseman is hosting “Canoche” — a night with Cano and friends that will have a Latin supper club feel  — at the city’s Paramount Theater to benefit his RC22 Foundation.

Sitting the bench at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, N.Y., became a much nicer experience thanks to the efforts of local Action Team volunteers and several Mets players.

The Action Team captains from nearby Queens Vocational and Technical High School on Saturday, May 16, took part in the New York City Parks Department’s “It’s My Park Day” in which local communities come together to restore, beautify and clean up public parks.
