At NRG, we believe empowering future generations for success is the most rewarding investment an organization can make. That’s why we are honored to work with our distributed customer, Goldman Sachs, on their third annual Local College Collaborative program.
February 15th, 2019 marked our Sales Director Art Formas’ 41st anniversary in the energy industry. Well before we became known as NRG, Art worked for our predecessor, Houston Lighting and Power Company, as a Power Consultant—one of seven job titles he’s held in the industry to date.
Today’s businesses are securing renewable energy in record numbers. In fact, commercial and industrial companies contracted for more renewables last year than ever before — 6.5 GW compared to 2.8 GW in 2017. In Texas alone, the total amount of energy generated from wind and solar has reached nearly 20 percent in recent years. The state stands out for its abundance of renewables offered at attractive prices, motivating businesses to sign large offtake agreements.(1)
Plum Point and WA Parish awarded for performance in 2018.
Safety and environmental stewardship are two of our most critical power values at NRG, and 2018 was the best year yet for meeting safety and sustainability goals. We are proud to announce the 2018 Safety and Environmental award winners: The Plum Point energy station located in Osceola, AR received the Plant of the Year award (as well as the STRIVE safety award recognizing the plant for their exemplary safety record), while our WA Parish generating station in Thompsons, TX received the Green Glass Award for their Environmental Stewardship.
"At NRG, sustainability is at the center of everything that we do. It's more than the way we do business; it's an integral part of who we are and literally at the heart of our purpose of creating a sustainable energy future."-Mauricio Gutierrez, President and CEO, NRG Energy

Biodiversity promotes healthy ecosystems and human interaction with nature. That’s why we designed our environmental policy to foster the protection of the natural habitats surrounding our generation sites. Protecting and promoting biodiversity ensures that living resources will remain in stable quantities in perpetuity. The air we breathe, leaves on trees and even a spider’s web serve important biodiversity functions. It is our obligation as a company and as employees to effectively use and protect all natural resources in a sustainable way.
