Part of the community impact work that ON Semiconductor supports is through its Global Corporate Giving (GCG) Program, which strategically leverages our resources, talent and efforts to support nonprofits and educational institutions.
Each year, we fund projects and programs in order to create social value and maximize our impact on communities through workplace giving and community grants. In 2018, we invested over $2 million USD to support of communities worldwide.
This month, our blog stories will focus on our commitment to corporate social responsibility and how we give back to local communities we serve by awarding quarterly grants to non-profits and schools as well as doubling the impact of employee donations by matching contributions. We also encourage employees to volunteer at organizations of their liking on company time and also regularly organize volunteer activities for them.
At ON Semiconductor we believe that as we grow we must also further invest in our communities to make a positive and measurable impact. Our Global Corporate Giving Program, which was launched in 2016, strategically leverages our resources, talent and efforts to support non-profits and educational institutions. Each year, we fund projects and programs in order to create social value and maximize our effect on the communities through workplace giving and community grants.
Some call it “environmental sustainability,” but it is really is about business sustainability. Our customers expect the best quality at the lowest price. Our communities expect us to have the smallest possible footprint; this means low water and electricity consumption and no or reduced emissions and waste. ON Semiconductor must conserve resources to meet these high expectations.
At ON Semiconductor, we celebrate differences and promote an inclusive environment by valuing the contributions of all employees and through our many Affinity Network Groups, these committees serve as a resource for the company by raising cultural awareness and inclusion, promoting company values, strengthening member leadership skills, encouraging recruitment, development and retention and increasing collaboration and innovation.
“It is the right thing to do!” This is the typical line heard when companies talk about diversity and inclusion is a part of their guiding principles. While the statement is true, it is not the end of the story. At ON Semiconductor, we know that having a diverse workforce and hosting inclusive environments across the globe are the right things for our employees, both in and out of the office.
How Our Products Make a Difference in the Community
As a global company with approximately 70 sites worldwide and over 29,000 products, we are proud to showcase our accomplishments in enhancing our global community. We have components in medical devices, fitness trackers and smartwatches, autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles, charging stations, and solar inverters, some of which are capable of replacing 70 coal-fired power plants – an accomplishment for which we can all be proud!
Did you know that all finished goods plastics from our 22 manufacturing sites and most sub-contractors globally are shipped to ON Semiconductor’s Reclamation Center (OSRC) located at our headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona? On average, we accumulate 100,000-pounds of plastic per year through the finished goods our products are shipped in. This includes rails, reels and wafer carriers. Last year, China banned all imported waste, causing several companies to halt their recycling programs and divert their plastic waste to the landfills.
