The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is an organization dedicated to “transforming the market to make sustainable palm oil the norm.” To accomplish this goal, the RSPO monitors how their efforts affect the three pillars of sustainability: people, planet and profit.
SCS Global Services Issues First Certificate to Vermont Soap Company

EMERYVILLE, CA, Jan 24, 2016 — SCS Global Services (SCS) announced that it has officially earned accreditation as a third-party certifier under the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) program. SCS is the first RSPO-accredited certifier headquartered in North America, and only the second in the Americas. SCS has received accreditation to certify supply chains (SCCS), with pending accreditation to certify palm oil plantations and mills (P&C). SCS’ first RSPO certificate was awarded to Vermont Soap, a well-known soap manufacturer based in Middlebury, Vermont.
As worldwide efforts grow to support more sustainable palm oil development, one thing is clear: The geography and controversy change.
For companies that have palm oil in their product lines, the ability to track and verify ethically and sustainably produced palm oil will be challenging because of the inherent “moving target” aspect of this material.
