A Ride to Remember for Two Milpitas Boys

For the past three years, Republic Services residential recycling truck driver Tony LaRosa and the Plaza family on Ferreira Court in Milpitas, particularly 5-year-old Michael Plaza, have developed a special "trash day" friendship.

With the family preparing to move this week to the Sacramento area, LaRosa took Michael Plaza and his 3-year-old brother, Jon Plaza, on a unique 30-minute ride along in his truck last Thursday morning as their parents, Jeff and Jenny Plaza, walked on the sidewalk.

Recycling Containers Added at Fountain Park

The Town of Fountain Hills and Republic Services recently unveiled new recycling cans to be installed in Fountain Park.

Republic Services has been providing trash removal services to the town since 2010 and on June 11, 2015, in conjunction with town officials, the firm debuted receptacles to be used for the town’s recycling initiative.

Mayor Linda Kavanagh said, “I thought it would be a great idea to have recycling cans at the park, since most people who walk the park have water bottles or other drink containers with them.

Republic Services (NYSE: RSG) recently announced the recipients of its second annual Environmental Stewardship Scholarship program with the Washington County School District. Each year, Republic Services offers a $500 scholarship to graduating seniors from each of the area's high schools. The scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, environmental stewardship and extracurricular achievement.

The Award recognizes an individual in the field who has made significant contributions in the last year to the advancement of integrated solid waste reduction in the Carolinas. The Carolina Recycling Association presented the Award at its 25th Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Thursday, March 26.

County Line Landfill Celebrates New Renewable Energy Project for Earth Day

Republic Services held an open house in celebration of Earth Day with Aria Energy at the new landfill gas-to-energy (LFGTE) project at County Line Landfill. The six-megawatt project began operations in late 2014, and is capable of generating enough renewable energy to power more than 3,200 homes in Fulton and Marshall Counties.
