Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, on behalf of his Why Not You Foundation, will present Seattle Children’s and its Strong Against Cancer initiative a donation of $1,675,367 during the Friday Seahawks versus Chiefs preseason game at CenturyLink Field. The proceeds were raised through a combined effort from The Wilson Celebrity Invitational charity event Wilson hosted in June and Safeway and Albertsons customers who participated in an in-store promotion during the month of July.
For nearly a decade, employees at Albertsons Companies’ Northern California Safeway office have participated in and raised money for the AIDS Walk San Francisco. This year, the team of Albertsons Companies’ corporate office and Safeway employees again supported the important cause. About 8,000 people participated in the 10K walk through Golden Gate Park.

Pharmacies at Safeways and Albertsons across the state began selling Narcan nasal spray to patients without requiring a prescription. The goal is to make a difference in the growing opioid crisis. “This is one of the single greatest services I have ever been involved in providing," said Dr. Amy Justham, the pharmacy manager at the Safeway in lower Queen Anne.
Safeway announced today that 11 grocery stores in Northern California have joined Manomet’s Grocery Stewardship Certification (GSC) program. These are the first stores in California to pilot this sustainability program. Enrollment in the GSC recognizes the company’s commitment to incorporating operational sustainability best practices in stores, reducing its environmental impact and saving resources.
Second Harvest and the Dairy Farmers of Washington are partnering with local grocery stores for a Give-a-Gallon promotion this month for needy children...June 7 to 21 it will be at Safeway and Albertsons.
Colgate-Palmolive and the Mars Agency’s “Turn Off the Water” campaign in Safeway’s Northern California stores was honored at the 2017 Effie Awards in the Single-Retailer Program: Supermarkets category. The campaign implemented a regional integrated shopper marketing program to inspire consumers to conserve water at home. Award winners were recently recognized at the prestigious North American Effie Awards Gala in New York.
