Jay Bruce, Cincinnati Reds outfielder, has hit 18 homeruns so far this season. The biggest swing he’ll take, however, is during the Jay Bruce Golf Benefit and Tournament this November.

Bruce’s older sister, Kellan, has intellectual and developmental disabilities, which inspired Bruce to create the golf benefit in 2010.

The Fourth of July is a day Americans celebrate their freedom, but for Sean Doolittle it’s also a day to recognize those who gave people that freedom.

Doolittle, a reliever with the A’s, is the seventh cousin of General Jimmy Doolittle, an aviation pioneer. He is credited with calculating that the 16 B-25 Army Air Force Mitchell bombers could be launched using “short-field takeoffs” – less than 500 feet of a runway on an aircraft carrier.

Carlos Beltran recorded a hit and three RBIs on Wednesday, helping the New York Yankees beat the Colorado Rockies. What he did after the game, however, left an even bigger impression.

Beltran’s third annual gala was held at Gotham Hall in Manhattan Wednesday evening. Proceeds from the baseball-themed event “Let’s Score!” benefit the Carlos Beltran Foundation, which helps promote health, fitness and education for children from low income families.

Clay Buchholz usually throws strikes to benefit the Red Sox, but on July 7 the two-time All-Star will try rolling them to benefit a host of children’s charities his foundation supports.

The 4th Annual Buchholz Bowl and Benefit Bash is being held to fund the Clay Buchholz Foundation, which he founded with his wife, Lindsay, in March 2013.

The Clay Buchholz Foundation was created to provide health, educational and sports opportunities to improve the lives of children in need and provides resources to support existing nonprofit organizations.

Turning pages helps Rays starter Chris Archer turn around lives.

The tall, lean right-hander came across Paulo Coelho’s allegorical novel “The Alchemist” a few years ago. Drawing inspiration from the story about a shepherd named Santiago’s journey to fulfill his destiny, Archer created the Archway Foundation as a way to use his platform as a baseball player to positively impact lives.

The Archway Foundation’s mission is to help people bridge the gap between limitations and reaching goals. Archer employs this mission by teaching what he does best – baseball.

Nelson Cruz, a native of Las Matas de Santa Cruz, Dominican Republic, is an international superstar. Some of his best work, however, is not on a baseball diamond, but away from the spotlight supporting causes close to his heart.

Most recently, Cruz’s philanthropic work was highlighted during a New York City event at the Parilla Latina, where Senator Adriano Espaillat presented Cruz with a proclamation from the New York State Senate.
