Highest Scoring Railroad on CDP’s S&P 500 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index
Omaha, Neb., Wednesday, October 9, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Union Pacific Railroad achieved its best performance in CDP’s Standard & Poor’s 500 (S&P 500) climate change 2014 report for the depth and quality of climate change data it disclosed. With a carbon disclosure score of 99 out of a possible 100, Union Pacific is in the top 10 percent of all companies in the S&P 500 sample, securing another leadership position on the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index and the highest score among railroads.
The Open Door Mission in Omaha, Nebraska, recently received some helping hands from Union Pacific employees in the railroad's Field Management Trainee (FMT) program. The trainees took an evening off to serve dinner at the mission, an organization whose philosophy is to "break the cycle of homelessness and poverty."
The FMT program is designed to give new front-line managers the tools necessary to become successful leaders. There were 15 employees in town for the training, said John Maeda, Union Pacific manager of yard operations-Chicago.
Union Pacific Railroad is launching a multi-media, bilingual public safety campaign aimed at encouraging pedestrians and drivers to safely use railroad crossings. Part of the Union Pacific Crossing Accident Reduction Education and Safety (UP CARES) initiative, the advertising campaign utilizes radio spots and billboards in English and Spanish to reach audiences in Houston, San Antonio, Laredo, Midland and Odessa, Texas; Plaquemine, Louisiana; Little Rock, Arkansas; Fresno, California; Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota; and Chicago.
