Military spouses are the backbone of military families. Studies show that supporting military spouse employment and closing the military spouse un/underemployment gap not only strengthens our nation’s economy, but also improves military readiness.
But for military spouses who want to work outside the home, the frequent relocations common to military life can seem an insurmountable barrier to building and maintaining a career. As a result, many military spouses find themselves unemployed or underemployed.
As summer begins, many of us are looking forward to spending time enjoying the freedoms we’re blessed with as Americans. On Memorial Day, our Nation will take the time to pause and respect the true meaning of these moments, the true price of those freedoms.
Sixty-four years ago, Congress declared that “The Marine Corps must be the most ready when the nation is generally least ready.” The years since have seen that proven out many times over. Marines are the first to respond in times of crisis all over the world, and their excellence is legendary. In 2016 alone, the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) executed approximately 185 operations, 140 security cooperation events with our partners and allies, and 65 major exercises.

America’s mayors delivered a crystal clear message at their June annual meeting: Energy codes protect our homeowners and tenants, our grids, and our Nation.
On June 27 this year, the US Conference of Mayors (USCM) unanimously adopted Resolution 49 in support of putting America’s Model Building Energy Code–the IECC–on a path of reasonable, but steady improvements toward net zero building construction. Mayors made it clear they do not want the 2018 IECC, which will be finalized this November, to be the first energy code that is weaker than the IECC it updates.
