For corporate social responsibility (CSR) and HR managers, it can be difficult to understand how to leverage volunteer and giving programs in ways that respond to current events without being overly reactive to them.
On October 7, Shire hosted its second annual Global Day of Service. More than one-third of our newly expanded workforce participated in volunteer projects worldwide. Employee volunteers dedicated over 25,000 hours of their time in more than 150 locations. Many projects focused on helping children to “overcome odds.” They included employees helping prepare the SeriousFun Children’s Network camp in Ireland for fall programs, and others developing activity booklets for sick children in Switzerland.

It also joined VolunteerMatch, which links people willing to donate their time with a cause. The Warrens said that led to companies such as The Limited and Morgan Stanley sponsoring book drives. "It was really exciting the first time. I got to tour The Limited facility," she said.
