Summer is just about coming to a close. Which – is a bummer. We know. But at Wendy’s®, there’s a silver lining: the kickoff to Wendy’s High School Heisman® Scholarship season.

You know we are passionate about a lot. Fresh beef, for instance. Quality ingredients overall. The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption®. But for the past 23 years, Wendy’s has also been a champion for students who show incredible passion in overcoming obstacles to be successful in the classroom, on the athletic field and within their communities.

The Wendy’s Heisman National Finalists represent the best scholar athletes in the country. After a nationwide search, the field has been narrowed to only ten. They come from all walks of life, but have one thing in common: a drive and hunger to reach higher, go further and give more in the classroom, on the field and in their communities.

Why I Love the Wendy’s High School Heisman Program

Friends and family often tell me that I have a pretty great job. I get to promote Wendy’s® latest menu offerings (read: hamburgers, Frosty® desserts, salads and fries), I contribute to brand-building awareness activities, and I feel fortunate to be given a platform to give back by participating in events that raise money and awareness for children in foster care.

So, yes…I agree…I have a pretty great job.

But there’s one project that I work on at Wendy’s that I’m particularly passionate about, and that’s Wendy’s High School Heisman®.

How Winning the Wendy's High School Heisman Changed My Life

Summary:

Editor’s Note:  We are excited welcome our latest guest blogger, Olympian Meghan O’Leary, to The Square Deal.  As you’ll read below, Meghan’s story is particularly inspiring. Her inner strength, relentless drive, and willingness to take on new challenges, are traits that that made her our 2002 Wendy’s High School Heisman female winner and brought her to Rio this past summer to compete on the US women’s double sculls rowing team with Ellen Tomek. Meghan and Ellen faced grueling race conditions in Rio and battled back from a repechage in order to place sixth in the entire world, and in doing so, they brought so much joy and pride to the Wendy’s Family.
