"To anyone considering foster care adoption, a teenager can bring out the most love and hope a person can have in their heart." Sadie and Cody Corley, of Louisiana, adopted Latrell through the Foundation's Wendy's Wonderful Kids program. Latrell says he is now "living his best life."

It’s easy to look at the Mace family and see something extraordinary. A same-sex couple who has adopted five children from the foster care system, all while devoutly serving the United States military and bearing the strain of multiple re-assignments. From background checks, court sessions, disclosure meetings and more, Christopher and Brian Mace have gone to extraordinary lengths to create a forever family for their five children: Eira, Kota, Steven, Dallyn and Kinley.

It’s difficult to quantify the number of lives that Dave Thomas touched throughout his 69 years of life. From our 6,500 restaurants who employ around 30 employees per restaurant per year, combined with the thousands of children in the foster care system who have been paired with a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter, plus all the restaurant support center employees, contractors, suppliers and agencies that serve to support the Wendy’s restaurants…the number must be in the billions and counting
Imagine if helping children in foster care was as easy as eating dinner at Wendy’s®.
Well, good news! It is!
On Tuesday, November 14 between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm, 15% of restaurant sales from customers who visit a participating Wendy’s restaurant for dinner will be donated to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption® in recognition of National Adoption Month. These funds will support the DTFA’s continued efforts to find forever homes for children waiting in foster care.
Adoption Recruiter Kerri Byrd on Finding a Forever Family for Each and Every Child in Foster Care
In her job as an adoption recruiter for Wendy’s Wonderful Kids® (WWK), Kerri Byrd often works long hours. She works continually to earn the trust of children and teenagers who have bounced around the foster care system living in home after home. She fills out paperwork—lots of it. And day after day (which often spills into night), she coordinates with therapists, caseworkers, attorneys and others as she advocates on behalf of her children.
Foundation initiative will go nationwide over the next four years.

Twenty-five years ago, Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas embarked on a revolutionary mission. His goal: Make the adoption system in America work for all children in need of adoptive families.
“He founded this organization to focus on this specific group of children who are in the tenuous position of waiting for a family (and) aging out of the foster care system without the family that was promised to them,” says Rita Soronen...
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The excitement of running to the family room and seeing presents under the tree; we all remember tearing into the wrapping paper to see what Santa left for us. But families that have recently grown through adoption sometimes strain to provide gifts for their newly-expanded family during the holidays.
It’s Tuesday night and I’m still a little jet-lagged after last week's week-long trip to Las Vegas.
Why? Each fall, we host a convention-style meeting for all of our U.S. and Canadian franchisees. Every other year we include our global franchise partners as well. These conventions involve lots of planning, a reasonable amount of stress (you try guessing what 1,500 people want to have for dinner), and time away from home and family.
The Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program is the signature program of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Started in 2004, with only seven sites, the program has expanded to 215 sites, including all 50 states and six Canadian provinces.
