Though some people may not realize it, healthy oceans are critical to a healthy planet. Yet we know our oceans are struggling. Overfishing and illegal fishing are both major culprits in aggravating the oceans’ distress. Eighty-five percent of the Earth’s fisheries are fished to capacity or overfished. And often, other species are caught with the fish, threatening the survival of dolphins, whales, seabirds, sharks, and turtles, among others.
The world was turning off the lights and turning up the awareness Saturday night.
Staples Center, along with the nearby convention center and other L.A. spots like the Santa Monica ferris wheel went dark joining the worldwide movement called Earth Hour.

Nine months after the tech’s installation, more than two dozen poachers have been arrested in the Maasai Mara and two poachers have been apprehended at another undisclosed national park in Kenya.
This is one of the first times this technology is being used outside of the military and law-enforcement to protect wildlife.
