January 31, 2019 - Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde developed a health campaign in partnership with the Regional Government of Yarabamba to provide healthcare for citizens in remote areas.

In addition to treatment for gastroenteritis, services also included education for the prevention of acute diarrheal diseases.

Doctors and specialists examined and treated patients needing services in areas such as gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine and dentistry. Vision and anemia screenings were also provided.

Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde has an Agricultural Development Program for farmers in the Yarabamba and Uchumayo Districts of Peru that provides services to business owners including education and information on warehouses and greenhouses.

Cerro Verde has model farms and demonstration plots for education. Farmers raise laying hens, ducks, and guinea pigs. Many local farmers also grow culinary herbs and succulents, as well as fruits, potatoes and quinoa.

The Cerro Verde Mining Company partnered with the Municipal District of Yarabamba, the Ministry of Health, the Municipal Children and Adolescent Defenders (DEMUNA) and The Business Service Center (CESEM).

Medical specialists such as pediatricians, geriatricians, gynecologists and dentists were available to provide preventive medical services and information.

The Cerro Verde Mining Company in Peru hosted the Innova Contest, which rewards the best innovations of local small and medium enterprises. The objective of the competition is to encourage diverse production and increase competitiveness according to market demand.

Thirty-one entrepreneurial businesses were provided with training in trade and services, manufacturing and agriculture. A total of 21 businesses from the districts of Uchumayo, Yarabamba, La Joya and Tiabaya were chosen as winners by a jury and received cash awards for their business growth.

April 7, 2015 /3BL Media/ - In 2013, Cerro Verde partnered with TESCUP, Peru’s premier technical training institute, to develop a training for students interested in concentrator maintenance and operations. In December 2014 the one-time program graduated its class of 173 students.

During the course of the 12-month program, the 173 students logged 139,000 hours for completion. The training consisted of several courses, including process control, metrology, concentration plant processes, hydraulics, chemistry and basic electrotechnology.
