When the target date for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals is reached in 2030, my son and his peers will be young adults entering or preparing to enter the workforce. This will be a workforce that is fundamentally different, requiring skills for jobs that haven’t yet been imagined.
As production began on the upcoming fifth season of “Empire,” FOX’s Golden Globe-nominated drama series following the Lyon family’s exploits in the hip-hop industry, the show welcomed some new additions to its crew behind the scenes. A group of interns from the CineCares Foundation, a Chicago nonprofit providing education initiatives, joined colleagues in the Props, Wardrobe, Electric, Construction and other departments for the first 12 weeks of the shoot.
Since 2013, Scotiabank Mexico has been partners of Fondo para la Paz I.A.P. to help improve living conditions of indigenous teneek communities. Over the past year more than 500 young people have developed projects that benefit the entire region. This video (in Spanish) tells more about this story.
In partnership with Comunidad y Ambiente Adonai, Scotiabank Mexico supported the development of 50 young people in the northern region of Oaxaca by helping them remodel their school and shelter providing them an enhanced place to learn and to live. More than 30 Scotiabank volunteers supported this initiative.

THE Scotiabank Leadership Academy is in its fifth year working with Families in Action (FA) with a programme to help young people develop leadership skills. During the five-day programme they would learn to network with each other, learn to handle conflict and hone their leadership skills.
The programme this year would include a session on community and social responsibility where they would learn to not only develop themselves, but how to help other people in their communities.
The programme for 2018 was launched on Monday at All Saints Memorial Hall, Queen’s Park West.
