El Abra, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Receives an Energy Efficiency Award

El Abra operations recently received a Silver Seal Energy Efficiency Award from the Chilean Ministry of Energy and the National Sustainability Agency for its ongoing efforts to improve energy consumption and efficiency in mining operations.

The award, presented at a formal ceremony in January 2020, is given by the ministry to private companies that show a high level of commitment to energy efficiency. El Abra specifically was recognized for its work in the area of cathode production.

El Abra operations is working to increase its percentage of renewable energy to reach the goal of 100 percent use of renewables by 2021.

El Abra's commitment to environmental stewardship has won numerous accolades, including the 2016 National Environmental Award from the Recyclápolis Foundation for its part in a project that built Chile's first community hybrid power plant.
