Businesses that uphold sustainable practices in how they source, produce, and serve or sell food play a crucial role in transforming the food system. The mission of Equal Exchange, an importer of coffee, tea, chocolate, bananas, and other foods, is deeply rooted in building long-term trade partnerships and mutually beneficial relationships. Equal Exchange began offering Fair Trade specialty coffee in 1986, 12 years before a Fair Trade product certification was even created for the market in the United States. 

Now, Equal Exchange is one of the nation’s oldest and largest worker co-ops, in terms of both members and revenue.
