International Paper Addresses Food Insecurity by Donating Funds and Boxes to Feeding America®

International Paper, one of the world’s leading producers of renewable, fiber-based packaging and pulp, recently made a $105,000 donation to Feeding America® to bolster year-round hunger-relief efforts across the country. The donation is the result of the company’s employee match program and provides additional funding to help member food banks continue to serve people who face hunger in their communities. This support exceeds the company’s annual $500,000 commitment to Feeding America®, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization.

In addition to monetary support, International Paper will donate 250,000 corrugated boxes to ensure that Feeding America® can safely pack and distribute nonperishable food and supplies. This national box donation complements our “Box Out Hunger” program held in IP communities to support local food banks with boxes, volunteers and funding.

In September, which is Hunger Action Month®, Feeding America® published a report that includes insights and anti-hunger policy recommendations from nearly 36,000 people across all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Insights from the report and Feeding America’s bold aspiration to cut the food insecurity rate in half by 2030 will be discussed at an upcoming event hosted by Feeding America® in conjunction with the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health on September 28. International Paper will participate in policy conversations informed by people facing hunger at the event.

“Our employees are passionate about supporting critical community needs, and we recognize that our boxes are essential for distributing food to people in need,” said Dr. Alissa Campbell Shaw, senior manager, Global Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Engagement, International Paper. “Our employees and our boxes are helping improve the ability of food banks to serve communities around the U.S.”

“We are grateful for International Paper’s continued support for funding and corrugate containers that help our network of food banks distribute food to people facing hunger,” said Erika Thiem, Chief Supply Chain Officer at Feeding America. “The partnership between International Paper team members and Feeding America member food banks is a great example of how local relationships can drive national impact in times of increased need.” Addressing hunger in our communities will take the commitments and actions of individuals, corporations, non-profits and the government working together and in partnership with people facing hunger to help create viable solutions.”
