Minera El Abra, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Earns Gender Equality Certification

Oct 8, 2020 2:55 PM ET

El Abra obtained a government-issued Gender Certification known as Norm 3262 for gender equality and conciliation of work and family life, becoming the first private mining company in Chile to obtain such certification.

El Abra has long focused on promoting gender equality by incorporating women into operations and senior management positions within the company. To obtain the certification, El Abra worked to change the internal culture of the site by implementing training programs, information campaigns, audits and specific measures of infrastructure. In 2019, El Abra increased the number of women workers to 10 percent from 7 percent.

Norm 3262 is a voluntary compliance standard that asks companies to implement concrete measures establishing gender equality and the reconciliation of work, family and personal life through the development of action plans consistent with the corporate strategy.
