Newly released research in this year’s edition of Reporting matters has found that corporate sustainability reporting is improving.

The CLP Group demonstrated good sustainability governance practices in its most recent Sustainability Report, according to this year’s edition of Reporting matters – the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s (WBCSD) annual review of member company sustainability reports.

The review covered 159 companies from 19 supersectors in 34 countries and noted continued progress in corporate sustainability reporting and disclosure, as well as a continued movement towards digital reporting.

Reporting matters highlighted the joint leadership commitment to sustainability from CLP’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, and the company’s robust governance structure to address sustainability issues.

For instance, CLP’s 2018 Sustainability Report detailed the roles and responsibilities of its CEO-chaired Sustainability Committee, providing readers with access to the Committee Terms of Reference and incorporating a full work report covering sustainability goals, priorities, policies, frameworks, trends, risks, performance and reporting as well as community, charitable and environmental partnerships and initiatives.

In the review conducted with Radley Yeldar, WBCSD also found that 88% of member companies had improved their overall reporting scores since baseline year 2015 and 38% had improved their materiality score in this timespan.
