A Small College with Big Adoption Benefits is Making a Difference in our Nation’s Heartland
Each year the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption ranks the nation’s Top 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces.
Throughout November, National Adoption Month, we are sharing the adoption stories from our top adoption-friendly partners. This year Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa ranked fifth in their industry.
Heather Sas, a college employee says her family has adopted twice thanks to the benefits offered by the college. “Our family is grateful for the financial support Northwestern College provided during this adoption journey. What a blessing it is to have a workplace that acknowledges and celebrates the gift of adoption!”
Adoptive families face unique challenges, and we can't begin to understand the emotional roller coaster they often experience. What we can do is provide a level of support that assists those families financially and during the adjustment process with time-off benefits. Having family members that have gone through the adoption process makes me really proud of the benefit the college offers because it is unique to our area and unique among small liberal arts colleges in our area,” said Deb Sandbulte, Director of Human Resources.
The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is committed to dramatically increasing the number of adoptions from foster care. However, the Top 100 Best Adoption-Workplace survey recognizes employers who offer benefits for any type of adoption.
