CBRE Partners with Plan International on Ambitious Safer Cities Initiative

To celebrate International Women’s Day, CBRE is proud to announce an extension to its partnership with children’s charity, Plan International, to bring the charity’s ‘Safer Cities’ programme to Nairobi in Kenya.

About Safer Cities
Every year, over 20 million girls move to cities to find jobs and escape the abuse and early marriage often experienced in rural communities. But far from finding opportunity, for thousands of girls city life can mean sexual harassment, violence or worse.

Plan International’s Safer Cities programme aims to make cities safer for girls and women, and transform them into places of inclusion, tolerance and opportunity for everyone. The programme is already successfully running in Cairo, Kampala, Hanoi, Lima and Delhi and, with the support of CBRE, the programme will now extend to Nairobi in Kenya.

CBRE’s EMEA business (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) plans to contribute over £550,000 over the next two years, and use its expertise to help transform the lives of over 4000 girls in Embakasi, one of the poorest parts of Nairobi. CBRE and Plan International’s work in Sierra Leone
Safer Cities is a natural extension of the work CBRE has been doing with Plan International since 2014 to provide an education for girls in Sierra Leone. This programme has now raised over £1million with these funds unlocking a further UK government grant of £8 million, significantly strengthening the project’s impact. As a result, CBRE and Plan International have been able to support more than 135,000 children, particularly girls, in Sierra Leone – before, during and post the Ebola outbreak.  An impact report outlining progress to date is available here.
