What makes your volunteer program so successful?

Our employees are what make our program such a success. They are deeply involved in the community and share the bank’s core value of community leadership. Most of our colleagues are involved in the community before they join the bank, and once they are a part of 1st Source, their involvement grows even stronger. We are very fortunate to have such a committed and caring team.

What recent accomplishments make you proud?

1st Source Bank has developed a very strong relationship with Junior Achievement to bring financial education to students throughout the communities we serve. Our colleagues serve as instructors and mentors to students and are making a big impact. We developed a ‘JA in a Day’ program in which more than 30 of our employees volunteer in a school on one particular day. The program has been very popular and we have modeled it in other communities throughout our footprint. It is a great opportunity to impact a large number of students at once.

What advice do you have for others managing an employee volunteer program?

The key to a successful program is finding ‘champions’ within your organization who will set an example and encourage employee participation. It’s important to have buy-in from individuals at all levels.
