One of the great aspects of working at an organization such as Hewlett Packard is that it allows you to contribute to causes and events that add value to you as an individual and to the society around you.

December 3 is International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). This is a United Nations sanctioned day that aims to promote an understanding of people with disability and encourage support for their dignity, rights and well-being.

On this date last year, the Hungarian Business Leaders Forum (HBLF – supported by HP, among others) organized the first ever job fair in Hungary for people with disabilities.

The job fair was an opportunity for those with disabilities to find out more about opportunities that may be available, network with local employers, and discuss issues important to them in their job search. There were a number of speakers at the event, including Krisztina Kovács, our Hungarian HR Director who presented HP’s recruitment policies and participated in a great round table discussion.

HP was further represented at the event with a number of employees manning a stand and an office corner. In addition, HP employees volunteered in a program that provides help for jobseekers. At the HP stand, they informed attendees about vacant jobs. In the office corner they edited and printed the resumes of the guests on request and helped copy them and other materials, such as school certificates and medical documents.

The event succeeded way above all expectations; more than 800 people showed interest in the opportunities. The HP Stand was very popular too. The employees present were very happy to be at the attendee’s service.

A TA Consultant present on the day, Ildikó Tűzkő-Kéger said:

“Participating in this fair was a big job, but a very good experience too. We hope that – partly due to this event - we can greet more and more disabled colleagues in HP in the furfure, because diversity adds great value to company.”
