NBC and Telemundo owned stations are deeply rooted in the communities they serve. With efforts that include nationwide awareness campaigns focused on helping teachers and students in need and annual health fairs that attract thousands of people and deliver vital preventive health screenings and services, the NBC and Telemundo stations are invested in creating long-term good.

Supporting Our Schools with NBC and Telemundo Owned Stations

For teachers across the country, starting the school year off right means finding access to the supplies and funds they need to inspire, educate, and serve their students to the best of their abilities.  That access isn’t always a given.  In June 2017, NBC and Telemundo owned stations launched their first-ever “Supporting Our Schools” campaign to help raise awareness about classroom needs in local communities and how individuals can help students and teachers get the resources and school supplies they need to achieve a brighter tomorrow.

Spearheaded by NBC and Telemundo owned stations and in partnership with Communities in Schools, DonorsChoose.org, and national nonprofits working at the local level, the campaign included successful “Fill the Bus” school supply drive events.  It culminated in drives held with local nonprofits, grocers, and furniture stores in the month of July 2017 across 20 markets in the United States and Puerto Rico.

The inaugural effort created measurable impact and raised $1.3 million in cash and goods, including more than 400,000 backpacks, notebooks, markers, pencils, glue, and other school supplies for students and teachers.  After such a successful launch, we look forward to continuing the campaign on an annual basis.

Promoting Healthy Living with Telemundo 52

“As a local station, our responsibility is to provide our viewers information and resources that can help to improve their quality of life,” says Celia Chavez, President and General Manager of Telemundo 52 Los Angeles.  In March 2018, Telemundo 52 reinforced that commitment with the 14th anniversary of its annual El Poder En Ti Feria de la Salud health fair at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The fair attracted thousands of Latino families and children, providing more than 30,000 attendees with access to free health screenings, healthy cooking demonstrations, sporting activities, and family-friendly entertainment.

“I’m proud of Telemundo 52’s long-standing legacy of working for our communities, and the continued collaboration between our partners and clients to present an event that helps to bridge the healthcare gaps in the Latino communities we serve,” says Chavez.
