Provide "A Different Kind of Healing" to Seriously Ill Children and Their Families

At nine years old, Jaxson was an avid fisher who loved to ride his bike. Then his world was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with Leukemia, a malignant progressive cancer in which the bone marrow and other blood forming organs produce increased numbers of immature or abnormal leukocytes. Suddenly, he could no longer do the things he loved and felt completely lost.

While he was undergoing treatment in the hospital, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp’s Hospital Outreach Program visited his room offering fun activities and crafts. In a time that was scary and uncertain, Hole in the Wall provided a chance to play and escape medical challenges. The next year, Jaxson came to a summer camp session at Hole in the Wall and enjoyed seven amazing days making friends, doing crafts, and best of all – fishing.

“Camp helped me feel not alone and made me know I am not the only one out in the world with a disease,” Jaxson said. “The counselors are all incredibly nice, and the campers I can relate to because we all went through and are still going through something that a lot of other people just don’t understand.”

Jaxson is one of thousands of seriously ill children who experience “a different kind of healing” through Hole in the Wall’s year-round programs. Whether in the hospital, in camper homes and communities or onsite at Camp, these brave children, and their families, are able to find joy, hope and a community of support.

All Camp programs are offered completely free of charge, thanks to a community of friends who have made Founder Paul Newman’s dream their own. Whether through a one-time gift, or a recurring payroll deduction or monthly gift, these generous donors help provide transformational experiences to children and families often left isolated by illness.

To think, a gift of $10 a month can provide superhero costume supplies for four home visits through the CampOut program. And $25 a month can provide fishing poles and tackle for a cabin of campers like Jaxson, who are excited to return to fishing, or maybe catch their very first fish. For just $50 a month, 10 children will find distraction and play during a Hospital Outreach visit.
