The Internet of Things (IoT) narrative has evolved drastically over the past two years, and today we have even more opportunity to redefine what’s possible with connectivity to make cities, cars, homes and devices smarter and more sustainable. At Qualcomm, we take pride in innovating for the greater good, and are excited about the opportunity to help shape the narrative about the role of IoT in enabling economic development and smart urban infrastructure.

One of the main benefactors of the IoT revolution is smart cities, which is why we have worked locally on initiatives including our newly announced project with the San Diego Padres to help them increase efficiencies and reduce operational expenses by 25% over the next several years at Petco Park. By utilizing Qualcomm Intelligent Solutions edge intelligence gateways powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processors and the OSIsoft’s PI system, the Padres are able to collect more granular, real-time data from Petco Park’s existing infrastructure to monitor utilities and help drive sustainability across the entire ballpark.

On our headquarters campus just a little over 20 miles north of Petco Park, we are developing other intelligent solutions to help address sustainability issues on a larger scale. We are working tirelessly to enable economic development, “smart” urban infrastructure, efficient transportation, cost-efficient health care and more. Developing transformative solutions to global problems through the use of technology is at the core of what we do, and our products are in many ways helping to enhance quality of life around the world.

To make our industry more sustainable, we are inspiring the next generation of inventors and technologists through our science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education programs. Cultivating tomorrow’s workforce, our Qualcomm® Thinkabit Lab has to date given approximately 8,000 students from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds the chance to learn and explore STEM education in an open, maker-space environment.

To make our world more sustainable, we are bringing advanced wireless technologies to underserved communities in over 40 countries through our Qualcomm® Wireless Reach™ initiative. Through more than 100 programs we are fostering entrepreneurship, aiding in public safety, enhancing the delivery of health care, enriching teaching and learning and improving the state of our environment in underserved communities globally.

We are committed to taking the necessary steps to create a safer, more sustainable and smarter world for future generations, and are excited about new projects, such as our Petco Park collaborative, that will help us in achieving that goal. With our solutions, we are helping to transform the technology narrative and factoring the future into every idea as we work towards a more sustainable tomorrow, today.
