Sands Cares donated $10,000 to Communities in Schools (CIS) of Nevada on March 3, in front of the LOVE installation in the Waterfall Atrium at The Palazzo Las Vegas.  Sands Cares Director Stephanie Stanton and Vice President of Administration and Event Optimization at The Venetian and The Palazzo Anna Schmid presented the check to CIS of Nevada CEO Dr. Tiffany Tyler and Resource Development Director Brittany McCoy.

“Our primary goal for providing funding to Communities In Schools of Nevada is to help remove the financial barriers that limit students’ access to resources on the path to graduation,” Stanton said.  “Students shouldn’t be kept from entrance testing and college applications simply based on a lack of available resources.  These kids have worked tirelessly to be successful, and they deserve the chance to pursue their goals. Sands Cares works with organizations like CIS of Nevada to ensure that Las Vegas Valley youth have every opportunity to fulfill their educational aspirations.”

The donation will help offset the costs of college application fees and other post-secondary interests for CIS of Nevada seniors. SAT and ACT testing can cost $75 per student, cap and gown rental can cost graduates $85 each and non-refundable college application fees can cost students between $45 and $75 per application.

CIS of Nevada is the local affiliate of the nation’s largest and most effective organization dedicated to keeping kids in school and helping them succeed in life.  Based directly inside schools, CIS of Nevada connects students and their families to basic and critical educational and community-based resources, tailored to each student’s specific needs.  Operating in 59 school sites in Western Nevada, Southern Nevada, and Northeastern Nevada, CIS of Nevada serves over 58,000 students.

“Sands Cares is a valued partner in improving the community of Southern Nevada, and we’re grateful that they see such importance in investing in our students’ educations,” Dr. Tyler said.  “We’re excited to continue working together on our mission of improving the lives and futures of students within our community.”

Las Vegas Sands is dedicated to making our communities better places to live and promoting a strong quality of life, fostering an environment for growth.  In each of our communities, we focus on partnerships that promote the community’s livability by strengthening educational opportunities and helping people become more employable and productive by improving the region’s overall foundation by solving chronic issues.
