A pair of $58,100 shoes are helping bring new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education resources to Bay Area teachers today. The Stephen and Ayesha Curry Family Foundation and DonorsChoose.org hosted a special charitable campaign on eBay this January, auctioning off a pair of custom, game-worn “Moon Landing” Under Armour Curry 6 basketball shoes. The charity campaign raised $58,100, which will fund local teacher requests on DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit website where teachers request the resources and experiences their students need to succeed.

Curry signed the rare kicks and wore them during the Warriors’ January 3rd home game versus the Houston Rockets. The Under Armour Curry 6 basketball shoe is Curry’s latest signature basketball shoe and will be worn throughout the 2018-2019 NBA season. This limited-edition pair was hand customized by Mache and celebrates the great American achievement of landing on the Moon.

“Ayesha and I are blown away by the success of this auction and what it will mean for thousands of kids in Oakland and across the Bay Area who will now have access to better STEM educational experiences,” said Stephen Curry. “We’re excited to see some of these projects in action soon!”

The proceeds from the auction funded all live Math and Science projects in Oakland, CA on DonorsChoose.org. In total, 32 projects from across 24 schools in Oakland reached their goal with help from the Currys. Project examples include a request for tablets to help teach coding from Ms. Wallis and technology to explore earth and climate science from Ms. Coleman. The remaining funding will be used to support projects at low-income schools from around the Bay Area, fulfilling front-line educators’ direct needs to elevate STEM teaching in their classrooms.

"We're thrilled at how many classrooms will benefit from the auction, and we're so grateful to the Stephen and Ayesha Curry Family Foundation for their support," said Charles Best, founder of DonorsChoose.org.

“I bid on these shoes because of their uniqueness”, said the winning bidder. “There are plenty of other game-worn Curry’s in the marketplace but only one pair of these that originated from a comment, given in a light moment, that became larger than life. Curry is undoubtedly the greatest shooter of all-time but perhaps even more impressive is how he conducts himself off the court. I’m honored to be a small part of that by supporting the Stephen and Ayesha Curry Family Foundation.”

"This campaign is a great example of the power of our platform - giving our community an opportunity to not only acquire a rare, one-of-a-kind piece of sneaker culture and basketball history, but to make an impact,” said Brenda Halkias, General Manager of eBay for Charity.
