Studies have shown that innovation is essential, and in fact, at the core of social and business sustainability.  Now more than ever, innovators have to merge social, environmental, and political perspectives into their creative thinking.  A combination of creative ideas and new technology will be essential to solving many of the sustainability challenges we face today.   In our sustainability consulting, we run across the sustainability link to innovation all the time.  Our experience reveals that most sustainability concepts that stick don’t originate from a grand corporate or political discussion.   They spring up from the seeds of innovation from social and consumer expectations.    A common denominator across leading sustainability companies is the ability to recognize public eco awareness and deliver new products that address societal and environmental challenges in a way that delivers business sustainability and long term value.  Leading business such as Toyota will tell you that a sustainable product introduction like the Prius was an innovative response to consumer needs.   As we engage with companies and business leaders seeking to inspire and motivate sustainable action in their organization, we encourage them to look to their key stakeholders as a source of new ideas.  Click here to continue reading.
