Mitigating the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 with MEP design
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our High Performance Buildings Group has conducted research into the role that mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design can play in mitigating the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 in the built environment.
In a typical, normal day, how many times a day do you think about touching your face? Or perhaps your phone? Most likely, very little if not at all; however, what we’ve witnessed during the global pandemic of COVID-19, is a heightened sense of touch awareness, or being cognizant of surfaces we touch. In this unprecedented season, people and society as a whole have become very aware and wary of touching objects within our surroundings.
A lot of people are talking about the race to 5G. In many ways, it’s a journey without a finish line since wireless technology is constantly evolving. Historically, the U.S. has held a leadership position, and that remains true for now. The rapid advancement in technology pertaining to automation is revolutionary and it is a privilege to be witnessing this change during our lifetime. With all the discussions and debates around automation and the future of mobility, it is hard to ignore the role of self-driving cars. The wide-scale adoption of autonomous vehicles (AVs) will be transformative, impacting almost every facet of our lives. AVs hold the potential to transform the way we live, travel, work, vacation and enjoy our leisure activities.
