Campaign: Sanofi US

Last year, Sanofi Information Solutions (IS) worked in partnership with Hewlett-Packard (HP) on the deployment of a new print service across our locations in North America (NA). By supporting Sanofi’s environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility goals, this project is bringing the idea of a paperless office closer to reality with printers that are more environmentally friendly, convenient, and secure.

The effort began in 2013 with an analysis of our current print environment. It was obvious we needed to not only reduce what we spent on printing, but needed to gain better control over our print services – which was decentralized and fragmented – and offer a solution with meaningful environmental, technological, and service improvements.

By switching to energy efficient shared multifunction devices, taking advantage of duplexing capabilities (double-sided printing), having digital send capabilities, default to black and white rather than color, and using convenient recycling, we’re now using less energy and less paper. These printers also limit access to network devices and encrypt confidential documents, helping us to comply with regulatory mandates. Additionally, with just over 1000 printers in place in NA, there are fewer devices and types of devices to manage, which eases the strain of IS support staff.

The rollout was complete by the end of 2014, but the benefits are ongoing as employee adoption has translated into savings across the board, making an impact to our organization’s productivity, financial and environmental health. Since the new printer deployment program began in late 2013, Sanofi has reduced its paper consumption by nearly 9 million sheets, which amounts to approximately 1,100 trees and 852,050 gallons of water saved.

As a way of giving back, Sanofi Information Solutions (IS) commemorated Earth Day with a tree planting ceremony at our Bridgewater, N.J. campus.  The tree symbolizes Sanofi’s commitment to protect the environment and conserve Earth’s precious resources.  IS plans to make a donation to the National Arbor Day Foundation who will plant trees on Sanofi’s behalf in the Chippewa National Forest in Minnesota.
