LA Kings Host Inaugural Beijing Jr. Kings Camp
Beijing Jr. Kings serve as the first-ever development initiative for any NHL team in China
Earlier this month, AEG’s LA Kings hosted the inaugural Beijing Jr. Kings Camp in China from Aug. 19-23, as part of the team’s partnership with China-based ORG Packaging and the NHL to grow the sport of hockey in the region.
Over the course of five days, the LA Kings hosted 30 children ages 6-14 for an extensive youth hockey camp at AZ Rink. The camp featured both on-ice drills and dryland drills led by LA Kings Coaching Staff and was capped off by a mock-NHL game between the kids.
LA Kings personalities in attendance included alumni Peter Budaj and Derek Armstrong, Goaltending Coach Bill Ranford, Beijing Jr. Kings Head Coach Tim Watters, Beijing Jr. Kings Assistant Coach Hannah Westbrook and Beijing Jr. Kings Goalie Coach Nick Lehr.
The LA Kings first announced the formation of the Beijing Jr. Kings, the first-ever development initiative for any NHL team in China in September 2018.
In addition to receiving coaching, Beijing Jr. Kings Camp participants also received LA Kings gift bags and jerseys. Upon completion of the camp, participants also received a certificate signed by each coach.
This upcoming season, the Beijing Jr. Kings will travel to Los Angeles to be part of an international tournament hosted by the LA Kings. During the trip on January 29, the team will also be recognized at the Kings Chinese Heritage Night game presented by ORG Packaging.
