Campaign: MLK Day of Service
25th MLK Day of Service

Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who once said, “Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve.” MLK Day is a federal holiday dedicated to service, honoring MLK’s commitment to addressing the deep inequities that existed – and still exist – within our society.

While Common Impact has the privilege of seeing this commitment to service every day in the faces of our volunteers and nonprofit leaders, this day and this year feel special. In 2020, we began a new decade. Later this year, we celebrate Common Impact’s 20th anniversary of activating our communities through skills-based service. Currently, we are looking at the importance of civic engagement and civil liberties as we head towards the launch of the 2020 Census that will determine our investment in communities and the pivotal elections that will determine our future.

Our team at Common Impact encourages you today to think about how you can be of service to your community. Whether it’s performing a small act of kindness for a neighbor, taking the time to volunteer at a local nonprofit, joining a community board, registering to vote or inspiring others to follow your lead, you can model MLK’s legacy.

Make today a day on, not a day off.

Sincerely,
Danielle Holly
