WESTBOROUGH, Mass., July 7, 2016 /3BL Media/ – In honor of the BJ’s Wholesale Club opening soon in Kearny, the company today announced a $15,000 BJ’s Charitable Foundation grant to the Boys & Girls Club of Newark. The grant will enable the club to provide breakfast for 350 children attending six weeks of summer camp.

“Hunger doesn’t get a summer break, and BJ’s Charitable Foundation is helping kids in Newark start every day of summer camp with a healthy breakfast,” said Robert Reyes, general manager of the BJ’s Wholesale Club in Kearny. “We’re thrilled to present this grant to the Boys & Girls Club of Newark as they keep kids on track for the coming school year.”

During camp, children will participate in "Summer Brain Gain," six weeks of activities with the goal of mitigating summer learning loss. Children will also have the opportunity to experience outdoor activities, make new friends, and learn to swim, play sports and unlock their potential.

“Food-insecurity—the limited access to food or nutritious meals -- is a leading factor in forging the achievement gap, and a reality many of our members endure," said Kavita Mehra interim chief executive officer for the Boys & Girls Club of Newark. "Because of investment from the BJ’s Charitable Foundation, our members will begin their day with a high quality, nutritious breakfast, which is an essential component to ensuring that our children are prepared to have an impactful summer enrichment experience.”

The new 85,000 square foot BJ’s Wholesale Club is set to open in late summer at 180 Passaic Avenue in Kearny. Area residents will find significant savings on high-quality fresh foods, including produce, fresh meat and deli items, and household essentials, like laundry detergent and diapers. The Club will also feature outstanding value on general merchandise, including electronics and apparel.
