October 15, 2013 /3BL Media/ - CECP’s Board of Directors recognizes Charles H. Moore, former Executive Director, CECP, for his recent honor in being named the Lifetime Achievement in Philanthropy Award winner by Corporate Responsibility Magazine and the COMMIT!Forum.  Charles was celebrated at a dinner on October 9, 2013 alongside other respected leaders including Dan Hesse, CEO, Sprint. Moore is the first-ever recipient of this new award.

CR Magazine's Lifetime Achievement Awards acknowledge individuals whose risk taking, visions, and pioneering spirits have led to significant achievements in the field over the course of their careers.

"I am honored to receive the 2013 Lifetime Achievement in Philanthropy Award," commented Charles Moore. "My gratitude goes to my CECP colleagues and CECP's CEOs and companies that share my vision for investing in their communities, and that together contribute more than 40% of all corporate giving in the United States. This enthusiasm from our network is what creates innovative solutions to some of society's toughest challenges."

CECP, now in its 15th year, was started by Paul Newman and other business leaders, and today is where more than 150 Fortune 500 companies turn to make unprecedented progress on their community investments.

“From being appointed as the CEO at several corporations, to winning gold in the 1952 Olympics, this is yet another accolade to add to Charlie Moore’s long and illustrious career,” stated Doug Conant, Founder and CEO, ConantLeadership; Former President and CEO, Campbell Soup Company; and Chair, CECP. “This is an award of great honor recognizing Charlie’s decades of dedication to serving others. But after several years of working with Charlie, I know he will not rest until corporations have fully dedicated themselves to unleashing the best of their potential to finding solutions to pressing societal issues. Stay tuned for Charlie’s next chapter. ”

The CECP Moore helped build is where CEOs make societal investment a priority within their companies by reinforcing the importance of their community engagement, rallying other CEOs to do more, and inspiring employees to get involved, among other actions. CECP supports its companies through one-on-one assistance, and national and regional gatherings. As Conant recently wrote in McKinsey's Voices on Society, "Business leaders should use every tool in their CSR portfolio to help create economic value that can help address relevant societal issues."

“The indefatigable Charlie Moore took the idea of Paul Newman and me and through force of personality and extraordinary energy developed it into a unique organization of corporate Chief Executive Officers that is a major force for good at a time when governments, federal and local, are no longer leading the field of social responsibility,” stated Peter Malkin, Chairman Emeritus, Empire State Realty Trust, and Honorary Chair and Board Member, CECP

“Charlie recruited a small but brilliant team of young people imbued with a desire to serve society and trained them into an effective and practical organization that encourages and supports major corporations that recognize that it is a best practice of business to enhance the society in which they operate. Charlie’s legacy is greater recognition by public corporations that their programs of sustainability, support for public service, and philanthropy are a unique hallmark of American business enterprises.”
