Hello, I’m Emily Polk, and these are your CSR Minute headlines for Friday, December 3rd:
Neste Oil, the Finnish oil refining company, has obtained International Sustainability and Carbon Certification for its NEX-B.T.L. renewable diesel in Germany. The ISCC is the first standard for sustainability based on the European Union’s new renewable energy directive. It verifies the method for calculating the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions associated with the fuel. Starting in 2011, Germany will require sustainability certification for all biofuels sold in that country.
Elegant Roots, an online jewelry boutique that features eco-friendly and socially responsible products, is supporting the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s 466664 campaign by offering the 46664 Bangle. The number refers to Mandela’s prison number, before he became President of South Africa. The 46664 Campaign focuses on global social issues such as poverty, hunger, and HIV AIDs prevention. The Elegant Roots bracelets are fair trade handmade in South Africa and each bears a digital imprint of Mandel’s hand as well as his symbolic prison number.
