October 16, 2014 /3BL Media/ - To help ensure children are healthy and ready to succeed, EmblemHealth, the New York-based health insurance and wellness company, has partnered with CBS EcoMedia through its WellnessAd program to provide health care services to medically underserved youth in Harlem and Queens.

EmblemHealth funding will support Children Health Fund’s mobile medical program and provide medical services, mental health services, nutrition counseling, case management, HIV testing and care coordination to approximately 250 children who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness.

Children’s Health Fund created its first innovative model decades ago by building a doctor’s office on wheels that could bring healthcare to homeless children in New York City. Today, its national fleet of mobile medical clinics – the largest mobile pediatric service in the country – visits hundreds of schools, pre-K centers, and homeless shelters to provide primary care, dental services and mental health support to students who otherwise may not see a doctor or a dentist. The mobile clinics are fully equipped with examining rooms, waiting areas, a nurse's station, and a room for medical procedures.

EmblemHealth’s support will result in approximately 450 health care visits over the next year.

“We are grateful that EmblemHealth is helping to us to overcome the health care access issues that confront homeless youth in New York through this innovative partnership,” said Karen Redlener, executive director of Children’s Health Fund. “EmblemHealth is a new neighbor to our offices on 125th Street, and it is great that we can work together to improve health care for kids in need."

A special kick-off celebration was held today in Harlem to celebrate the partnership. EmblemHealth employee volunteers took a tour of the Children’s Health Fund mobile medical unit parked outside of the EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care Center. Following the tour, EmblemHealth employees visited the Streetwork Drop-In Center where they served lunch and distributed care-kits to the youth.

The Streetwork Project’s Harlem Center, a Children’s Health Fund partner, offers homeless and disenfranchised youth a respite from hunger, cold, loneliness and fear and the opportunity to reclaim for themselves a sense of dignity and self-worth.

“EmblemHealth provides programs and resources to help New Yorkers stay healthy, get well and live better,” says David Flemister, director of brand strategy and community marketing, EmblemHealth. “We are pleased to support the work done by Children’s Health Fund. "Through this partnership, we can demonstrate ‘What care feels like’ to medically underserved youth and their families.”

“We’re grateful to EmblemHealth for making wellness and high-quality health care accessible to disadvantaged youth in this community,” said Paul Polizzotto, president and founder, CBS EcoMedia. “Every child should have the opportunity to be healthy and ready to learn in school.”
