(3BL Media) Miami, FL - January 25, 2012 - Miami-Dade County officials from the Offices of the Mayor, County Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan and Sustainability (OOS), as well as the Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces Department, were joined by representatives from EcoMedia and Florida Power & Light (FPL) at a ribbon cutting celebration for a nine County park high-efficiency retrofit project on January 25, 2012, at Country Village Park Recreation Center. An EcoAd grant made possible by FPL provided funding to install 1,963 high efficiency light bulbs at the following parks: Goulds Gymnasium, North Trail Park Recreation Building, Martin Luther King, Jr. Park Recreation Center, Gwen Cherry YET Center, West Perrine Park Recreation Center, The Women’s Park Recreation Building, Ruben Dario Park Recreation Center, Westwind Lakes Recreation Center, and Country Village Park Recreation Center.

Coordinated through OOS, this project will save Miami-Dade County an estimated 65,198 kWh per year in energy consumption, reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 80,330 lbs per year, and save taxpayers nearly $8,600 per year in energy costs. It is also in line with the aggressive greenhouse gas reduction goals as set forth in the County’s sustainability plan, GreenPrint.

“During these difficult economic times, I am proud that Miami-Dade County government is thinking creatively and establishing partnerships like this one that result in efficiency, conservation and a financial benefit to the County,” said Lisa Martinez, Senior Advisor to Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez.  “Just as important is that we are creating jobs and stimulating our local economy, which is a top priority for the Mayor.”

“We’re thrilled that Florida Power & Light has embraced our mission, to nurture healthy communities in South Florida, and we’re so excited to be a part of the high efficiency lighting retrofit at nine Miami-Dade County parks” said Paul Polizzotto, President and Founder EcoMedia.
