December 16, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. (GMCR) has awarded the Café Femenino Foundation a $46,200 grant to support poverty reduction programs in Colombia and Peru in 2014. These funds will be directed toward coffee-producing communities in the Cauca Region of Colombia and throughout Northern Peru in communities located in Lambayeque, San Martin, Amazonas and Cajamarca.

The 2014 grant funding will support women coffee-producers and their families through projects that include the development of community gardens, production of the healthy Quinoa grain, food storage and preservation, and building healthier kitchens that eliminate smoke from homes.  The focus of these projects is on the reduction of malnutrition in children through education and improved diets, along with the creation of alternative incomes to reduce poverty and create assets for women.

The Café Femenino Foundation is extremely grateful for their nine-year partnership with GMCR and the grant funding and support they have provided in areas where GMCR has built long-term coffee-producer relationships. Together, GMCR and the Café Femenino Foundation have enhanced the lives of women and their families in coffee-producing communities around the world.

The Café Femenino Foundation is excited to continue this important partnership with GMCR in 2014 to improve the lives and futures of coffee growers in communities of Columbia and Peru.
