Grupo Gondi Helps Protect Forests While Protecting Its Network From COVID-19
EMERYVILLE, Calif., September 23, 2020 /3BL Media/ - Grupo Gondi, a leading paper packaging company in Mexico, has manufactured and distributed more than 7,000 face shields made with Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certified paper fiber to its staff and network of business affiliates to increase protection from COVID-19. SCS Global Services (SCS), an internationally recognized third-party certification organization, conducted an independent assessment, certifying Grupo Gondi under the FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) standard (FSC® C134490), and confirming that the paper used in the face shields is responsibly sourced from FSC certified sources.
The face shields offer full face coverage, featuring a large, clear acetate panel sturdy enough for industrial use. The portion of the shield to which the acetate is attached is made of FSC Mix 90% certified paper fiber. Worn over a standard nose and mouth mask, they provide users with an added layer of protection from the virus. Each face shield bears the FSC certification mark, letting users know that FSC certified materials were used.
“Grupo Gondi’s innovative use of FSC certified paper demonstrates a strong commitment to the responsible management of forest resources and contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals,” said Maggie Schwartz, SCS Global Services Director of Chain of Custody Certifications. “Amidst the current pandemic, this is the kind of out-of-the-box thinking that can help keep sustainability on track.”
“At Grupo Gondi we are very grateful for the extraordinary work carried out by our entire team. Their effort and dedication have kept us standing and strong throughout this pandemic,” said Sandra Rodriguez Arias, Grupo Gondi Multisite Coordinator of Chain of Custody. “Our commitment is to take care of all our collaborators, especially in moments of crisis like the one we are currently experiencing. We also stay firm to our mission of protecting the environment, which is why FSC certification was the best solution for us.”
FSC has been working to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests for more than 25 years. FSC Chain of Custody certification is a verifiable process that ensures transparency in the supply chain and traceability of raw materials, supporting environmental, social and economic principles.
Tania Caro, FSC Mexico Business Development Coordinator, said, “We congratulate Grupo Gondi for doing their part to shield over 7,000 people from COVID-19, and to demonstrate their leadership in sustainable processes that support responsible forest management.”
