SEOUL, June 4, 2014 /3BL Media/ ― LG Electronics activities around the world, timed to coincide with 2014 World Environment Day on June 5, underscore the company’s strong commitment to environmental stewardship.

LG shares the goal of encouraging more people to live sustainably, in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), sponsor of World Environment Day. Since May 1, LG has been screening a 30-second public service announcement for UNEP’s 2014 campaign, Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level, on LG’s LED billboards in Times Square in New York City and Piccadilly Circus in London.

The video represents an important role in a new global LG social campaign, LG Hope Screen, in which LG aims to introduce the great work performed by non-governmental organizations directly to more than 1.5 million people daily in two of the world’s leading cities.

In celebration of World Environment Day, as a responsible corporate citizen, LG is engaging in a number of environmentally-focused activities as part ofGlobal Volunteer Day. For example:

  • In Korea, LG’s labor union is hosting a training session about eco-friendly electronics for children.
  • LG employees in the United States are bringing their message of sustainability to the community, sponsoring a 5K race and local festival where they shared energy saving tips and encouraged participants to take the “Change the World – Star with ENERGY STAR®” pledge.
  • In Malaysia and Austria, LG employees are supporting World Environment Day with simple everyday actions to save energy, such as reducing the amount of printed materials, turning off unused lights and putting idle computers instandby mode.

LG’s global sustainability leadership is exemplified by innovative technologies developed with a focus on improved energy efficiency to reduce products’ impact on the environment. For its continued leadership in promoting green products, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recognized LG’s efforts with the 2014 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year-Sustained Excellence award. From 2009 to 2012, LG was named a member of the Carbon Management Global Leaders Club by the Carbon Disclosure Project Korea.
