McKesson’s FY10 Corporate Citizenship Report

The FY10 Corporate Citizenship Report provides an in-depth look at our business operations with a focus on social, environmental and financial performance.

Through our daily business, McKesson has a long history of making a positive impact on the community. Through improved operational efficiencies, we reduce the cost of healthcare for all; through our technology solutions, we reduce medication errors and eliminate the need for paper in the healthcare system; and through our day to day operations we identify opportunities to help reduce the environmental impact of healthcare delivery while supplying vital medicines and supplies that provide patients with better, safer care.

McKesson also works to build healthier communities through philanthropic giving, employee volunteerism, a deep commitment to diversity, environmental sustainability initiatives and support of small, diverse and veteran-owned businesses. McKesson's commitment to corporate citizenship is a fundamental part of creating sustained value for our customers, shareholders, communities and our Company.

“We are committed to our corporate citizenship strategy and are excited about our successes in 2010,” said Carrie Varoquiers, vice president of corporate citizenship and president of the McKesson Foundation. “At McKesson, we go beyond the traditional meaning of good corporate citizenship, as we seek to provide social value in every aspect of our core business.”

Information within McKesson’s 2010 Corporate Citizenship Report is framed by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 Guidelines.

Community Commitment

McKesson’s employees were heavily involved in volunteer opportunities throughout the fiscal year. McKesson’s hallmark volunteering event, Community Days, has been a tradition for more than 10 years. In the spring of 2010, more than 15,000 employees at 137 locations across the country gathered to work on projects supporting hospitalized military veterans.

McKesson plays an important role in helping our customers deliver critical medical supplies and pharmaceuticals during emergencies and natural disasters.  In response to the January 12, 2010 earthquake in Haiti, McKesson quickly responded to the crisis with logistical coordination, collaboration with suppliers, customers and employees and donations of more than $700,000.

Environmental Sustainability

McKesson’s commitment to environmental sustainability saves resources, time and costs and enables us to better serve our customers. At the end of FY10, McKesson’s Environmental Councils and business operations achieved a savings of more than $5 million resulting from energy savings, waste reduction, and reusable packaging solutions.

Supporting Small and Diverse Businesses

McKesson recognizes the outstanding contributions made by small and diverse businesses to the economic health and diversity of communities throughout the United States. Supplier Diversity is a critical component of McKesson’s plan to deliver the best products and services for its employees and its customers.

McKesson supports our nation’s military veterans by offering small, diverse and veteran-owned businesses the opportunity to enter into a mentoring relationship. One veteran-owned company that participates in McKesson's small business and diversity program is Veterans Imaging Products. Founder Tom Schultz shares some of the ways McKesson helps small businesses work with Fortune 500 companies.
