(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) September 7, 2011 - Mayland Court’s history in the home furnishing industry is as unexpected and richly textured as this chest of drawers from its Natural EleganceTM collection, Greenspiration Home’s American Made “Pick-of-the-Week”

Formerly known as Finishes First, Inc. the company was once known for its exquisite and unique custom finishes, providing signature looks for companies like Henredon, Ethan Allan, and French Heritage. No one could do custom finishes better.  Unfortunately, China could do it cheaper.   Co-owner Chris Warren, a veteran in the furniture industry, has seen it all.  In Mitchell County, North Carolina, the location of Mayland Court, Warren has watched furniture factory jobs drop from 1500 to the 8 positions currently occupied by Mayland Court employees.  But with a new business model that works directly with interior designers rather than large furniture manufactures, Mayland court is still turning out unique finishes, only this time on their own custom furniture – all made in Spruce Pine, NC.   All North Carolina, All Sustainable The Natural Elegance line uses a natural birch and poplar bark laminate on casegoods to create a truly one-of-a-kind look.  The bark laminate is sourced from another North Carolina manufacturer, Bark House, and is made with a FSC certified plywood backing.   “Bark has traditionally been a waste product of the lumber industry, but we’ve decided to incorporate it in with our unique finishes to create truly distinctive furnishings,” said Warren.   With products like this chest of drawers, the company has carved out a niche among 1500 interior designers who rely on them for custom furnishings.  It’s not mass production but it is an American made living.   American Made Exports to China! Mayland Court may soon be turning the tables on China by actually exporting product to the country.  The company’s furniture will be featured in the new SIP International Commodities Exhibition Center, in Suzhou, China. This Center is expected to generate opportunities that accelerate the export of products from North Carolina and U.S.-based companies to China.   Greenspiration Home LLC is an online resource dedicated to helping homeowners build, renovate, and decorate green.  The Greenspiration Home American Made “Pick-of-the-Week” campaign is part of the publication’s initiative to educate consumers about domestically made home décor options.   GHOM16586
