  • Achieved a best-ever combined employee and contractor workforce lost-time incident rate; and,

  • Recorded zero spills from any ExxonMobil owned and operated marine vessels, or from long-term chartered marine vessels.

In total, the report details performance in six citizenship focus areas, including issues related to climate change, environmental performance, and economic development. Over the past year, ExxonMobil has:

  • Improved energy efficiency across its refining and chemical operations, keeping it on track to meet its target of improving energy efficiency by at least 10 percent between 2002 and 2012.

  • Achieved a 20 percent reduction in upstream hydrocarbon flaring from 2009 and nearly a 60 percent reduction from 2006.

  • Spent more than $812 million on materials and services from minority- and women-owned businesses based in the United States, with opportunities to further expand the program internationally in Australia, Canada, China, and the UK under consideration.

The Corporate Citizenship Report was prepared in accordance with the reporting guidelines and indicators of the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association and the American Petroleum Institute Oil and Gas Industry Guidance on Sustainability Reporting (April 2005).
