August 8, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Telstra Corporation Ltd’s Bigger Picture 2013 Sustainability Reporting Series details the company’s sustainability approach, progress and performance across six key areas - Sustainability at Telstra, Responsible business, Customer experience, Our people, Community impact and Environmental impact.

This is Telstra’s eleventh year of reporting on its sustainability performance.

Highlights:
The report shows progress against the company’s 2013 targets and includes:

  • achieving an employee engagement score of 79% - four percentage points above the Australian national norm
  • reducing carbon emissions intensity by 33%
  • reducing office, billing and printing paper usage by 24%
  • donating $1.3 million to 285 charities through matched employee payroll giving
  • focussing on digital inclusion, with the total value of social and community contributions valued at $231 million
  • providing home phone line rental concessions for around 1.2 million low-income households
  • receiving a Disability Services Australia Award for improving employment opportunities through its Supported Workforce program
  • winning Project of the Year in the 2012 World Communication Awards for the ‘Emergency Alert Project’, a telephony-based emergency warning system

Telstra uses the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 Guidelines and the Telecommunications Section Supplement as its guiding framework, reporting to a B+ Application Level. The report was independently assured in accordance with the AA1000 Assurance Standard (AA1000AS 2008).
