If you’ve read any of my previous blog posts, you may have noticed a trend. I tend to focus on the humanitarian side of SAP. And why not? It’s always a great thing to see a company the size of SAP use its resources in a way that benefits all of us. I’ve written about the Skills for Africa program that brings opportunity to hundreds of people who face crippling unemployment rates. I’ve touched on SAP’s initiative to train and hire people with autism – people who are generally not acknowledged for their skills and abilities.

SAP Expands Social Sabbatical to China in 2013, Increases Service Assignments Abroad

On Monday, SAP announced that it has expanded its social sabbatical into China and doubled the number of participants it places abroad. SAP's inaugural program in China will work with non-profits that support local entrepreneurs in Shanghai. A relatively new area for international corporate volunteering, the social sabbatical was launched in 2012 with 30 SAP employees in three countries: Brazil, India and South Africa. In this next phase of the program, SAP is investing US$2.45 million to strengthen the leadership skills of 72 qualified employees and create sustainable impact in the selected countries.

Amway China Makes Commitment to 1 Million Children

Over the past two years, Amway China, through its Amway Charity Foundation (ACF), has built 754 “Spring Sprouts Kitchens” to provide nutritious meals to 377,000 rural Chinese schoolchildren.

Many of these children walk miles to school, sleeping overnight in buildings with no kitchens and no access to nutritious foods that help them learn and grow.

It’s been almost a year since we visited Long Ma Village in China’s Guangxi Province.

There, we found a small rural school that had struggled to provide adequate nutrition to children of poor farming families. Many of the children’s parents had left for the urban areas to find jobs to help support their children.
