Novo Nordisk Earns Top Green Ranking in China

Novo Nordisk aknowledged for financial, social and environmental sustainable development in China.

April 30 2013 /3BL Media/ -  Novo Nordisk was named as one of the top 100 sustainable companies at the Annual Summit of Green Companies held in Kunming, China. The annual event assesses sustainable competitiveness of enterprises doing business in China. On the Annual Summit’s ‘China Top 100 Green Companies 2013’ list, Novo Nordisk ranked number five in the multi-national company category. It is the first time the company has been selected.

GE is a member company of the Global Business Initiative on Human Rights, or GBI, which is made up of 18 multinational companies, including Coca-Cola, Total, ABB, Shell, Flextronics, Novo Nordisk and HP. GBI’s purpose is to bring the discussion of businesses’ role in respecting human rights to “emerging market” countries and regions where human rights are under pressure. Recent GBI gatherings have taken place in Brazil, Egypt, Kenya and, most recently, China.

China is having its Solyndra moment. Wuxi Suntech, a subsidiary of Suntech, one of the world’s largest makers of solar panels, has filed for bankruptcy. The Chinese news agency Xinhua says Wuxi Suntech owes $1.1 billion to nine Chinese banks. This bankruptcy comes after other solar panel manufacturers in the U.S. and in Europe have either failed or cut back production. The reason sounds like simple economics.

This spring the Toronto Zoo welcomes two giant pandas as part of a new giant panda conservation initiative that they entered into with China in February 2011.  This will be the first time since 1985 that pandas have visited the Toronto Zoo and will strengthen the long-term conservation partnership agreement between China and Canada.
